Week 12 | Unhurried & Non-Anxious | James 5:7-11
Heath Hardesty

Our days are busy, our minds distracted, our bodies adrenaline shocked  and far more fatigued than we know. We live at warp speed, rushing about and warping our souls. Most of the time we have precious little time for patience and presence--there is much to do! Lists to conquer, demands to meet, schedules to optimize, limited time to make the best of! James knew unhurried presence was key to the Christian life. In this week's passage James reminds us of the goodness and the beauty of a truly unhurried and non-anxious life. Where does this countercultural practice come from? How do we enter into this rest and Godly pace of life? Let's slow down together and hear the wisdom of James.

Wise Love Week 10 | Mist | James 4:13-17
Heath Hardesty

Your life is a vapor. A mist. Smoke. These are hard-hitting and sobering words. What are we to do with them? James helps us to see that our lives are short and fragile, but they are loaded with eternal consequence and held in the hand of a good and sovereign God. How we live out our vapor is of utmost importance. How are you living out your vapor?

Wise Love Week 4 | Mirror Christianity | James 1:18-27
Heath Hardesty

It is as though James has been watching our news channels and scrolling our social media feeds. What James wrote to the scattered churches some 2000 years ago is on point for today. We need a whole lot more gentleness and a whole lot more taming of the tongue. We need to remember who we are as followers of Jesus, and to truly follow Him as listeners and doers of His word, not just hearers who offer lip service and talk the Christian talk. James calls us to action as he turns our eyes to mirror Christianity

Wise Love Week 3 | God’s Plan For Your Trials | James 1:9-18
Joe Jewell

What is it that you find yourself in the midst of? Are you in a struggle? Are you in a valley? This week we seek to look at the deeper thing that is happening while walking through a trial. There is hope to be found knowing that God is still with you and that whatever it is you are dealing with is ultimately part of His bigger plan.

Wise Love Week 2 | Pearl Culture | James 1:1-8
Heath Hardesty

How rational is this James guy? "Count it joy when you face various trials," he says.  Really? Is James a naive optimist? Maybe he is deluded or confused? James is not disconnected from reality--he is trying to get us to see reality for what it is. Drawing from the deep wells of Old Testament wisdom literature and Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, James shares with his readers a spiritual truth about the "pearl culture" of the Kingdom of Heaven. Have you ever faced a trial? Are you in one now? Join us Sunday as James offers needed wisdom to help us live well in the face of our trials .

Wise Love Week 1 | Wisdom Walks
Heath Hardesty

Wisdom, anyone? Have you ever noticed the Letter of James has a bit of a different feel to it compared to the other letters in the New Testament? Why is this? The Letter of James is like a New Testament version of Proverbs skillfully remixed with Jesus' teachings from the Sermon on the Mount. An incredible mashup! Timely and challenging as ever, James is a needed foray into wisdom, helping us to learn what it means to be wise and that true faith has flesh on it. Everyday we face a number of competing voices and narratives that claim to be the way of wisdom, but not all claims for wisdom are equal! Join us this week as we begin our new series and listen to the voice of wisdom through the Letter of James.
