Faithful: An Advent Series

Advent season is happily upon us! Advent is far more than a transition from Thanksgiving to the festivities of Christmas day. It is a season of immense joy and deep longing. It is a time set aside in the church calendar to turn our yearning hearts to the glad arrival of the long-awaited King, to reflect and to tune our hearts to give Him praise. The word advent (adventus in Latin) means “arrival” or “coming.” In this special season, we not only turn our attentions back in remembrance of the Savior’s birth in Bethlehem, but also forward to the future when the King will come again and renew all things. He is a good and faithful King who fulfills all His promises.

This year’s Advent series, Faithful, speaks directly to VCC's 2025 vision of being a faithful witness in a world that needs to see God's love in action. Over four weeks, we will explore the lives of Mary, Joseph, Simeon, and Anna—portraits of unwavering faithfulness in both word and deed, as they awaited and celebrated the coming of the Messiah. These biblical portraits of faithfulness show us what it means to trust God’s promises and to live as those with hope. Through their examples, we will be reminded again of our call to trust in a faithful God who is on the move to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to an aching earth.
